INNOGRID2020+ 2018 GET READY FOR THE TWENTIES

InnoGrid2020+ is a yearly conference co-organised by the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) and the European Distribution System Operators for Smart Grids (EDSO). Begun in 2012, InnoGrid2020+ has over the years become the unmissable conference on innovation in power systems and networks.

This year edition of INNOGRID2020+ focused on the next decade’s challenges for the power grids and provided insights and solutions through innovative projects, demonstrators and pilots. The issues debated included system security including cyber security, flexibility and active system management, sector coupling and the role of e-mobility, among others.

In addition to engaging presentations, panel sessions and debates, INNOGRID2020+ ran an exhibition session, enabling participants to interact, share knowledge and best practices. The work and results of R&D innovative projects with EU added value was presented at the conference and at its networking exhibition.

Close to 30 projects in grid innovation exhibited during the two-day conference at BOZAR in Brussels, and among them also RESERVE, that was selected again, for the second year, as exhibitor.

For RESERVE representatives of FEN, RWTH and CRE attended the event, which was joined by a varied audience including high level European policy makers, researchers, project developers but also grid users and citizens. The exhibition resulted to be for RESERVE a very successful event, as proved by the interest shown by the publicum for our stand and for the topic of our project. It was for us a great networking opportunity that resulted in the creation of new collaborations.

Furthermore, RESERVE was presented by Mihai Paun, vice-president of the Romanian Energy Center (CRE) and leader, in RESERVE, of the Work Package “Regulatory, legal issues & business models for RES” during the conference session “Customers in the focus” dedicated to the projects presentations.

This podium presentation and the panel discussion that folllowed increased even more the visibility of RESERVE and gave us the opportunity to debate in front of a competent and interested publicum the RESERVE hot-topic related to the need of the definition of a new set of network codes for a scenario with a high share (up to 100%) of renewable energy sources integrated in the electric grid.

As a conclusion of the the second day of Innogrid2020+, ENTSO-E Secretary General Laurent Schmitt and EDSO’s Secretary General, Roberto Zangrandi, presented to the European Commission the 10 innovation actions to deliver the Energy Union, a document jointly prepared by the two associations and that can be found on both the EDSO and ENTSO-E websites.
